Convert between 31 units of length, weight, temperature and volume as you type. Metric, imperial and US customary units are covered, and each result shows the factor or formula that produced it.
Detailed Functionality
Choose a category, a source and a target unit, then enter a value — the result updates on every keystroke. Length covers metres, kilometres, centimetres, millimetres, micrometres, nanometres, miles, yards, feet and inches; weight covers kilograms, grams, milligrams, metric tonnes, pounds, ounces, stone and US (short) tons; volume covers litres, millilitres, cubic metres and US gallons, quarts, pints, cups, fluid ounces, tablespoons and teaspoons; temperature converts between Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin.
Linear units go through a base unit (metre, kilogram, litre) using the international definitions: 1 in = 2.54 cm, 1 mi = 1609.344 m, 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg. Temperatures use offset formulas (°F = °C × 9/5 + 32, K = °C + 273.15), and a value below absolute zero is flagged as physically impossible. Results keep 10 significant digits and switch to scientific notation below 0.000001 or above 1,000,000. The decimal separator follows the page language, and no thousands separators are added, so the number pastes cleanly into code or a spreadsheet.
Quick Conversions shows the current value in every other unit of the category; click one to make it the target. Common Conversions lists four reference pairs per category, such as 1 km → mi or 98.6 °F → °C. The calculation is plain JavaScript on the page — nothing is sent to a server.
Practical Examples
Running distance: 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometres; the formula line reads 1 Miles × 1.609344 = 1.609344 Kilometers.
Body temperature: 98.6 °F converts to 37 °C.
Recipe volume: 1 US gallon = 3.78541 litres.
Where the scales meet: -40 °C is exactly -40 °F.
How to Use This Tool

Select length, weight, temperature or volume in Category.
Set the units
Choose the units in From and To; the Swap units button reverses the direction.
Enter a value
Type a number — the result and the formula update immediately. Use the copy button next to the result to copy it.
Use the shortcuts
Click an entry in Quick Conversions to change the target unit, or one of the Common Conversions to load a typical pair.
Tips and Best Practices
- Gallons, quarts, pints, cups and fluid ounces are US customary units; a UK imperial gallon (4.546 L) is not in the list.
- "US Tons" are short tons of 907.185 kg; choose "Metric Tonnes" for 1000 kg.
- Ounces in the weight category are avoirdupois ounces (28.35 g); fluid ounces measure volume and are not interchangeable with them.
- Values below −273.15 °C, −459.67 °F or 0 K are flagged as below absolute zero.
- Very large or small results use scientific notation (
1E9); the formula line shows the exact multiplier used.
